The seven shrines are on Bellian Moor, along the bluffs south of Bristlecone's House, beside the Ochre Woods lake, deep in Nocturne Forest, in the Shifting Spires, on the beach west of Mel and Lusina's Shell, and inside the Temple of Silence. This Songs of Glimmerwick shrines location guide gives the landmarks and access steps for each stop on your Songs of Glimmerwick island exploration route.
Where are the five quest shrines?
Start Ancient Shrines by speaking to the anthropologist at the Bellian Moor shrine. Bellian Moor opens with the class camping trip on Summer 7; she gives you Restoration Round and asks you to restore five more shrines.
| Shrine | Exact location | How to reach it |
|---|---|---|
| Along the bluffs | Woods south of Bristlecone's House, above the west end of the Freshman Pier beach | Search the woods above the beach. |
| Ochre Woods lake | North shore near the lake's east end, just behind a giant dragon skull | Sail to the north side of the lake. |
| Nocturne Forest | Deep in the forest, past the talking Shrubs and their picnic basket, to the left of Zinnia | Go past the cave where you become a mushroom, then into the zone after the talking bushes. This shrine is not marked on the map. |
| Mountains | Shifting Spires, a few steps northeast of the top of the Gondola | Ride the Gondola up, then walk northeast. |
| Beach | West end of the beach by Mel and Lusina's Shell | Take your boat left from Mel's Shell or right from the beginner beach; the shrine is between them. |
The beach shrine requires a boat. If summoning your boat at the Ochre Woods lake fails, check that you have a boat and the amulet of boat summoning, and stand in the water when summoning it.
What do I do at each shrine?
Stand beside each shrine and play Restoration Round or Desolation Dirge. Each costs 140 mana, reduced to 112 mana once perfected. You can mix restoration and destruction across the five shrines.
For song questions, use Songs of Glimmerwick flutes and songs; for instrument questions while preparing, see Songs of Glimmerwick flute types.
Restore: recommended for Whirlwind Aria
Restoration Round repairs a shrine and gives 2 XP. Repair at least three of the five, then return to the anthropologist on Bellian Moor to receive Whirlwind Aria. Gary then waits in the Etchery Courtyard.
Whirlwind Aria harvests every ripe plant in its path in one cast, making it useful for your Songs of Glimmerwick university garden.
Destroy: increase maximum mana
Agree to help Gary when he appears at your first shrine to receive Desolation Dirge. Destroying a shrine permanently adds 50 maximum mana. If you repair two or fewer, the anthropologist gives no reward and Gary waits outside the Temple of Silence.
You can agree to help Gary, repair three shrines for Whirlwind Aria, and destroy the remaining two for 100 maximum mana. The starting shrine on Bellian Moor repairs itself after all five are handled, whichever combination you choose.
How do I reach the seventh shrine?
Enter the Temple of Silence
Handle all five quest shrines and continue Gary's story. To enter the Temple, win its chalice back from the owl with a Sunray Salmon.
Talk to Gary after his judgement
Inside the Temple, speak to Gary again. He leaves the Silencers and gives you Moss and the Wretched Instrument. A statue slides aside, revealing the passage to the Seventh Shrine.
Follow the passage and interact with the shrine
Interacting unlocks the Seventh Shrine achievement. You then choose whether to repair or destroy it.
Repair the seventh shrine
Gary burns the moss and the shrine is saved.
Destroy the seventh shrine
You plant the moss on the shrine. Either final choice finishes Ancient Shrines for 5 XP. The achievement unlocks when you interact, before the repair-or-destroy choice.
