Shop the day before a festival. Kavita attends the Seaflower Festival and Summer Music Festival and will not sell you anything on those days. If you want the scythe ready for garden work, buy it before Spring 14 or Summer 13 rather than leaving the purchase for the festival itself.
How Do You Check That the Scythe Works?
Once you have bought it, right-click the scythe in your hot bar to equip it, then click a grass clump. Owning it isn't enough; it has to be equipped. A successful cut clears the clump and gives you Cut Grass.
